Someone in an earlier post suggested an equation predicting the stability of a society's food level.
I adapted that idea and turned it into an equation using the GDP of agriculture: P/F+T=S or the population of a single society/GDP of agriculture + the amount of food available through trade and charity=stability level.
I tested this equation on the tiny island nation of Tuvalu and it appeared to work. Of course if one were to plug in say, China or the US, the results may be more accurate(Per Second Axiom of psychohistory)
Please Give your thoughts and opinions. I have no idea how well this will work, or if it will work, but we have to start somewhere.

Looks like a sound testable hypothesis. Based on that equation we could also calculate a stable population if we knew the amount of food each person in that nation requires per year. You could take S (Stability level), divide it by FPP (food per person) and figure out a stable population.
So, what will you do about this idea? Lots of psychohistory is hypothesis that aren't tested. I'm glad you tested it with Tuvalu, but we need to test it on a larger scale if possible. I would be glad to help you out if needed. If you can tell me where to find the following data, I can make programs or a website which can do the calculations for you. This is the data I would need:
Population of a nation
GDP of agriculture of that nation
Amount of food available to that nation
If you know of a place to find older data (data from all the past years, not just this year), that would be even better; we might be able to start spotting trends. Let me know what you think. |
