as i understand the the psydoscience it is a matter of broad reflections of mass reactions to social and economic stimulas
a good start is economic because of the vast quantities of data
i suggest a simple equation of population divided by avalable calories
example 10people diveded by 10 calories = starvation
one step further
population of a single society divided by calories produced +calories avaliable through trade and charity
